Viral Twitter video features GrabFood rider trapped in a lift in the weirdest position

It’s no secret that being a food delivery rider is something of a perilous job in its own way these days — one risks getting exposed to the harsh elements, potential virus infections and, worst of all, having to deal with lifts.

No, this isn’t about the seemingly controversial poster that seemingly barred riders from taking the lift.

Instead, it’s a GrabFood delivery rider who was trapped in a lift, contorted into a highly-uncomfortable position whilst pinned by his bike, even with the doors wide open.

His predicament was captured on camera and uploaded onto Twitter on June 8, where it’s since gotten over 52,000 views.

He was only freed when another man came over to haul the bike off him — though not before the other had gotten over his laughing fit.

Celebrating your birthday during a global pandemic will be a smaller affair, but with bakeries and cafes open for deliveries nowadays, the quintessential element of the celebration — birthday cakes — is still available.

However, one birthday girl wasn’t all smiles when she received her cake.

Tricia Yoo, 20, had pre-ordered a customised cake from a bakery in Toa Payoh for her birthday on June 9. The bakery has almost 4,000 followers on Instagram.

The cake was delivered at around 6pm on her birthday.

“When I first saw it, I was immediately very disappointed by how the lettering looked,” the university student told AsiaOne.

“Then I opened [the sides of] the box and was even more shocked by the faces.”

According to Yoo, the emoticon decorations at the side of the $75 cake were not shaped to be smooth circles and one of them appeared to have finger imprints on it.

Not many of us have had the chance to step into a Good Class Bungalow (GCB) in Singapore.

But what exactly is a GCB? The name is actually a URA planning term for properties that are required to fulfil a particular size and location criteria.

In 2017, there were about ” target=”_blank”>2,500 bungalows in 39 GCB areas.

They are mainly located within the prime districts of 10, 11, 20, 21 and 23, with a minimum land plot of 1,400 sq m (15,070 sq ft) and a maximum building height of two storeys (attic and basement not included).

The house itself also should not take up more than 35 per cent of the land area. Lastly, foreigners are not allowed to own Good Class Bungalows.

Expatriates in Singapore hit by coronavirus pay cuts, lay-offs fear for future

Martha Liv used to think that living and working in Singapore would give her family a chance to save the money they needed to buy a home when they moved back to Europe.

But ever since her husband was forced to take a 20 per cent pay cut in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the 36-year-old has been struggling to balance the books.

A request to reduce the $2,700 they pay in rent each month was rejected by their landlord, leaving Liv to try and find ways to stretch the remainder of her husband’s monthly pay packet – now $6,000 before rent is paid.

She shops at the wet market instead of the supermarket, buys regional ingredients rather than those imported from the West and manages the household while looking after their 17-month-old son without domestic help.

“It’s not cheap living here,” she said. “We’re taking from our savings for our normal expenses. How many months can you live on your savings?”

Singapore Polytechnic (SP) is investigating a student who was accused of sexual assault in a string of tweets, the school said in a statement today (June 11).

The tweets, posted by the student’s supposed ex-girlfriend on June 7, alleged that he had raped her in a chalet in March last year.

Prior to the incident, the woman, who has not been named to protect her identity, had broken up with him after discovering hundreds of lewd photos stored in his phone.

Some of the images appeared to have been taken without the subject’s consent, while others were doctored to make the women appear nude, she said.

She also claimed that he received a six-month suspension and counselling after she had reported the images to the school.

The purpose of her posts was to warn other women about him and find out if anyone else had a similar experience, she said, attaching screenshots of the man’s Instagram and Twitter accounts in her tweet.

Her story soon gained traction online, garnering over 3,600 retweets and a number of supportive replies from netizens.

Safety measures in new transit holding areas in Changi Airport

0

SINGAPORE: Passengers flying through Changi Airport will be directed to new transit holding areas in Terminals 1 and 3.

This is to provide “a safe environment for all passengers and airport workers”, said Changi Airport Group (CAG) on Thursday (Jun 11) as it prepares for the gradual resumption of transit passenger services.

This comes after Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced that it has received approval to reinstate transit flights from some cities in Australia and New Zealand.

CAG said that the holding areas will be disinfected regularly and temperature taking will be conducted at the entrances. Transit passengers with a high temperature or who appear or feel unwell will be given medical attention.

All passengers must wear a face mask and adhere to the safe distancing markers.

In addition, airport staff in the transit holding areas are required to wear a face mask, face shield and gloves, and will also have their temperatures taken before entering the area.

Contactless hand sanitisers, automatic water taps and doors equipped with sensors in restrooms are available in the transit holding areas, CAG said.

All restrooms, seats and chairs are regularly cleaned and disinfected. “Frequently touched surfaces such as charging stations, tables and playgrounds have been sprayed with a long-lasting anti-microbial disinfectant coating that reduces the risk of virus transmission,” said CAG.

Carpets are vacuumed daily by autonomous cleaning robots equipped with a HEPA filter that catches fine particles. The robots are also fitted with a misting machine to disinfect the carpets after cleaning.

SINGAPORE – There are 422 new coronavirus cases confirmed as of Thursday noon (June 11), taking Singapore’s total to 39,387.

These include five community cases, comprising a Singaporean and four work pass holders, said the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Migrant workers living in dormitories make up the other cases.

More details will be announced later on Thursday by the MOH.

On Wednesday, the MOH said that five students and one school employee who were confirmed to have Covid-19 on Sunday have all recovered.

All six had displayed mild symptoms with low viral loads and repeat swab tests using new samples showed they were all negative for the virus.

Five have been discharged from hospital, with the sixth remaining, “pending the resolution of administrative issues”, said MOH.

All six patients had been picked up through proactive testing of school staff and students above 12 years old who are diagnosed with acute respiratory infection.

A total of 451 new cases were announced on Wednesday, including seven community cases.

Man gives wife $1,000 cash bouquet for wedding anniversary

[ad_1]

One woman received a money bouquet of $1,000 in cash notes for her wedding anniversary recently.

It is unclear whether her husband planned this to coincide with the harsh financial times that we currently live in, or if it was a long-term idea for a wedding anniversary gift!

Wife receives money bouquet as anniversary gift

Regardless of the reason behind his gift idea, it has garnered a lot of support from the public on the page of the florist who created the bouquet.

Local florist, J’s Money Bouquet, shared a Facebook post on June 4, of the creation that consisted of prettily rolled notes of cash resembling flowers, and nestled daintily in a lush bouquet.

The flowers, once rolled out, would make up a nice little collection of:

Five $10 notes
Nine $50 notes
Five $100 notes
That brings it to a grand total of $1000, for those of you counting.

According to the post by the florist, this was an anniversary gift from a man to his wife.
