NILAI: Hong Kong superstar Aaron Kwok (pic) has been spotted in town shooting his new movie.

The 50-year-old star was seen this week filming a scene at Xiao En Memorial Park here.

When the movie crew noticed the local press taking photos, they were warned to stop or leave.

A black cloth was later draped over the production crew’s tent.

According to a source, the Mandarin movie is helmed by a Taiwanese director and touted as an action flick, with elements of dark comedy.

China actors Liu Qianyuan and Liu Tao will star alongside Kwok, the source added.

“About 80 per cent of the movie will be shot in Malaysia. Filming will take place in the Klang Valley. The film crew will shoot for a month or more,” the source revealed.

Xiao En marketing and communications senior manager Kidman Kok said while they had been the venue sponsor for movie shoots, this was the first time they were involved in the set design.

The Xiao En Service Hall was specially decorated for a funeral scene.

A photo of local actress Gai Yew Lan was used on the altar.

“We discussed with the art director who wanted an altar with Taiwanese and Korean elements,” Kok said.

“We used fresh flowers like lilies and chrysanthemums. The set design cost RM30,000 to RM40,000, which was sponsored by Xiao En.”

She said it was a challenging task for the company to be working with an international crew for the first time.

“This challenge will push us further ahead,” she added.

A local Chinese newspaper recently reported that Kwok was seen enjoying steamboat in Kuala Lumpur earlier this month.

The hot pot is apparently the star’s favourite food and he will make it a point to have it in any country he films in.

Kwok, a celebrated singer-actor, is noted as one of Hong Kong’s four “Heavenly Kings”.

Besides enjoying a highly successful singing career, he has also won accolades for his acting, most recently at last month’s 35th Hong Kong Film Awards, where he clinched best actor for his role in the detective drama Port of Call.
