Singapore Donated Us$60,000 For Flood And Typhoon Relief Efforts In Malaysia And Philippines

Singapore: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) stated at a press conference that the Singapore government will donate US$60,000 (S$82,000) as seed funding to support the public fundraising activities of the Singapore Red Cross to help disaster relief and recovery in Malaysia and the Philippines. Statement on working Wednesday (December 22).

The ministry stated that the donation will supplement the US$50,000 donated by the Singapore Red Cross to the Malaysian Red Crescent and the Philippine Red Cross.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “The floods in Malaysia and Typhoon Rai in the Philippines caused many lives and extensive damage to property, causing difficulties and suffering to many communities.”

“As a close friend and member of ASEAN, Singapore stands with Malaysia and the Philippines in this difficult time.”

The funds promised by the Singapore Red Cross will be used in areas such as emergency medical and first aid assistance, as well as the distribution of tarpaulins, hot meals, clothes and blankets to evacuation centers, the organization on Monday.

As of Tuesday, more than 20 people have died in Malaysia due to severe flooding, and more than 65,000 have been displaced.

In the Philippines, after Typhoon Rai hit the central and southern regions of the country, at least 375 people were killed and hundreds injured.

More than 400,000 people also fled their homes because the storm destroyed infrastructure in many areas and interrupted communications and power supplies.
