SINGAPORE: MPs Tan Kiat How (PAP-East Coast) and Eric Chua (PAP-Tanjong Pagar) have tested positive for COVID-19.

They posted about their condition on their Facebook page on Thursday (Feb 3).

Mr Tan, who is also the Minister of Communications and Information and National Development, said he tested positive for COVID-19 during the Lunar New Year period and spent the quarantine period on his research.

Mr Tan said he had “barely any symptoms” and had no fever or sore throat.

“I just feel a little tired than usual, I think it’s from running errands to prepare for the Chinese New Year,” Mr Tan added in his post.

“If I hadn’t had ART (rapid antigen testing) almost every day, I wouldn’t have known,” he said.

Individuals who test positive but are in good health or have mild symptoms assessed by a doctor should self-isolate at home for 72 hours, according to the Ministry of Health’s Protocol 2.

“I didn’t get out of the study for the next few days, except to go to the toilet and clean up the meals, which were left on the floor outside the study,” Mr Tan said.

He has been on ART daily since then and subsequently tested negative on day 4 on Thursday.

“Because Omicron is highly transmissible, my wife and I were mentally prepared for this situation. Still, it was quite unexpected,” Mr Tan said.

Mr Tan said his wife tested positive on Wednesday and they were “scrambling to pack” their 18-month-old son’s belongings and send him to the care of his grandparents.

“We’ve been checking on Isaac and hope he’s in good health,” Mr Tan said.

“At this point, I must say that I have my full sympathy for parents of young children who say they are concerned about bringing coronavirus home to their families. It’s nerve-wracking to keep wondering if you’ve infected your kids ,”He said.

Feeling “Heaty”
Mr Chua, who is also parliamentary secretary for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and the Ministry of Social and Family Development, said he shared on social media that he was feeling a little “hot” on Wednesday night.

“It turned out that I was actually COVID-positive,” Mr. Chua said.

As part of precautionary measures and his daily routine, Mr Chua took a self-test on Thursday morning. He said he had disturbed sleep the night before with body aches and a low-grade fever.

When he saw a “faint line” on the test indicating he was positive, he put on a double mask and drove to the nearest private clinic, he said.

He said he was placed on Protocol 2 and would be “free to move” if he tested negative on Sunday.

“I still have some mild symptoms and I’m very sorry for the cancellations of the events over the next few days – my sincere apologies. Hope I’ll be back when I’m done with protocol 2, until then, take care everyone!!” he wrote.
