Heads up, errant drivers.

From Oct 6, there will be more Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras deployed at 60 more locations around the island.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced in a statement on Thursday (Sept 29) that the move is to deter illegal parking and improve traffic conditions and road safety.

CCTV cameras have been placed at various locations since April 2014 and there are some 70 locations around the country that are closely monitored by these cameras. Since then, the daily average number of summonses per location has declined by 90 per cent, said LTA.

The number of summonses per day used to be at 30 but it has dropped to just three summonses per location by the end of 2015, LTA added.

By the end of 2017, CCTVs will be used to enforce parking offences at a total of 130 locations island-wide.

The authorities said the decision to deploy CCTVs “have proven effective in enforcing parking offences along roads where traffic was previously impeded by rampant illegal parking”.

By deterring illegal parking, the cameras also help to improve road safety, LTA said.
