YG Entertainment on Thursday refuted rumours that the company and its singer Psy are connected to Choi Soon-sil, who is under investigation for meddling in various areas of President Park Geun-hye’s administration.
“We are releasing this official statement due to rumours that have been generated relating to ‘Choi Soon-sil Gate’ and certain media outlets that are reporting the rumours as if they were true,” YG said in a statement.
The agency added, “Psy is not acquainted at all with Jang Si-ho.” Jang, Choi’s niece, is rumored to be close to the world-famous “Gangnam Style” star. “The two have never met and do not know each other,” YG said.
The statement was prompted after Rep. Ahn Min-seok of the Democratic Party of Korea said in a radio show that Choi Soon-sil’s sister Soon-deuk befriended members of a celebrity football team, of which Psy was rumored to be a member, to exert influence on the entertainment business.
YG said the singer does not and has never been part of the football team at issue.
Ahn also claimed that Choi’s niece Jang had “infiltrated” the entertainment industry, using her family connections to grant favors to a certain major entertainment agency and a well-known singer.
