“The Stalker” Xie Bin desperately wanted a stoppage win in the ONE Championship cage. On Friday Night, 21 April, he accomplished just that.
The 19-year-old Chinese bantamweight prospect opened the main card of ONE: KINGS OF DESTINY from the Mall Of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines, with an impressive submission victory over Cambodia’s Chan Rothana. The win came early in the second round after some fireworks on the feet between the pair, and a whole lot of high-level grappling from Tianjin Top Team standout.
Xie changed levels to start the first round, and almost immediately scored a double leg takedown. From there, the Chinese prospect transitioned side-to-side multiple times with back control while peppering his rival with punches. Chan, who trained at Tiger Muay Thai & MMA in preparation for this bout, was able to stand back up twice, but was taken down shortly after each small victory, once with a big suplex slam.
The opening stanza ended with an exciting back-and-forth sequence, which saw Xie posture up and throw down massive strikes on the downed Cambodian from the knee-on-belly position, followed by Chan reversing positions with his own takedown. The Tianjin Top Team product quickly hit a switch to stand up, brought Chan back to the mat, and rained strikes on Chan from side mount until the horn sounded.
In the opening ticks of the second round, the two men exchanged some heavy punch attempts. Xie eventually ducked under one particularly big swing from his Cambodian opponent, and scored another double leg takedown. This time, he moved straight into the side mount, and immediately set up a slick arm-in choke.
Chan, always a game opponent, scored a reversal and landed on top in Xie’s guard, but could not free his neck or arm. He tapped out to a tight D’Arce choke at the 1:46 mark of the second round, awarding the win to “The Stalker.”
Xie gets the first finish of his young mixed martial arts career, and pushes his record to 3-2. Chan, meanwhile, drops to 4-3, and the loss snaps his two-fight win streak.
