The news took many by surprise when the official announcement came that 1980s rock legends Guns N’ Roses will perform here for the first time next February.
But the Oct 11 announcement, which came with ticket price details for the Feb 25 show at Changi Exhibition Centre, also brought shock to many fans who took to social media to complain about the astronomically-high prices for the higher-tier tickets.
While Singapore concert-goers have come to expect to fork out a pretty penny over the years to watch coveted acts, nothing can beat this one.
Three different VIP packages for the Guns N’ Roses show range from $1,038 to a staggering $2,063 for a lounge experience.
Meanwhile, standard tickets will cost between $199 to $298 a pop while each VIP General Admission ticket is going for $568.
A recent act that came close to commanding so much from fans’ pockets was Madonna, who performed at the National Stadium in February. VIP tickets for her show sold for $1,288 while the next tier was priced at $688.
When heavy metal heavy-weights Metallica band performed in 2013 at Changi Exhibition Centre – the same venue for upcoming GnR concert – standard tickets were priced much less, ranging from $148 to $188.
Promoter LAMC Productions which organised the Metallica gig is also behind the upcoming Guns N’ Roses concert.
Facebook user Wayne Ree posted: “A lot of old school GnR fans passing on their show here. I guess you could say they’re all….estranged.”
Another user Ian Tan said: “GnR coming to SG? Sorry man, I think some teenage memories are best left to YouTube, and not a $2,000 ticket.”
However, it remains to be seen how fans here will respond when ticket sales begin on Friday (Oct 14) for OCBC Cardmembers, and on Oct 17 for the general public.
In addition, it will be their first-ever concert here, and part of a world tour which sees founder and frontman Axl Rose reuniting with former members, guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan, after a long separation.
Apart from Japan, Singapore is the only country in Asia that Guns N’ Roses will head to, said LAMC in a statement, so fans from other countries in the region are likely to flock here.
Fans in the region such as Facebook user Melissa Mayangitan posted: “My friends in Manila are raving about this!”
Twitter user Sophia Ramirez posted: “Kinda wanna go to Singapore so I can watch gnr.”
Singapore is also the last stop of the tour after their performances in Japan, New Zealand and Australia in the Asia-Pacific.
Meanwhile, resale tickets for their Australian leg in February have skyrocketed beyond the Singapore prices. The two highest-tiered VIP packages in Sydney are being offered online at princely sums of A$2,300 (S$2,392) and A$3,450 (S$3,589) respectively.
