Will traditional local delights such as Ang Ku Kueh and Teochew pastries disappear one day? There are over 40 items inscribed in the UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent safeguarding? What are governments around the world doing to preserve local traditions in danger?

The sixth episode “Disappearing Traditions” looks into how cultural practices and expressions are vanishing in the face of threats such as industrialisation and popular culture. What have we done to ease the diminishing rate? Are our actions quick enough?

“Why It Matters”(关我什么事) is one of 10 SPH-produced short form digital video series as part of a pilot Public Service Broadcast initiative. This 8-part animation series focuses on the sights and sounds that are gradually disappearing from this world, including languages, cultures, flora and fauna.
