A VIDEO of a Singaporean woman throwing a tantrum after a deaf and mute restaurant worker attempted to clear her tray before she had finished eating has provoked the ire of thousands of netizens, who have condemned her behavior as “disgusting” and “shameful”.
The woman, identified as Madam Fong by news portal Asia One, was filmed at a food court launching a tirade at the disabled man’s manager, who came to her table to apologize on his employee’s behalf.
Filmed by 30-year-old Euphemia Lee, Fong had earlier shouted at the disabled man after he thought her tray was ready to be taken away. Lee posted the video on Facebook and wrote: “She abruptly exploded into cursing and violent upper body actions. She then told him that he should go die and should not be given a coffin.”
When her husband returned, Fong apparently insisted he bring back the disabled employee to the table to apologize to her.
When the food court’s manager came in his employee’s stead, which is when Lee began filming the exchange, Fong can be heard berating him, banging her hand on the table and saying: “I don’t want to understand, I want him to apologize!”
She then goes on to shout: “Tell him to wait for the government to feed him! Go and be a beggar! I don’t care, he took my food!”

As the manager tries to explain that the employee is old, deaf and mute, Fong visibly seethes, and shouts again that he should become a beggar and that she should not have to understand.
According to the Straits Times, the manager told Chinese-language newspaper, Shin Min Daily News, that the woman continued to shout at him for about 15 to 20 minutes.
He will not be taking any disciplinary action against the employee, who he says has been working at the food court for a year.
The video has been watched over 1.5 million times on Facebook, with 29,212 shares at the time of publishing.
Fong, in an interview with Shih Min Daily News, has apologized for her tirade but insisted she is not entirely to blame for the incident as she did not know the employee was disabled.
She also said she had the flu on the day and was not feeling well. “I told him, ‘don’t take it away’ three times but he did not hear me. Instead he stared at me,” she said, quoted in the Straits Times.
“I then scolded him and told him to go be a beggar – I couldn’t tell if he was disabled as he was not wearing a tag.”
Fong also told the newspaper she is not a “bad or evil person”, and that her harsh words towards the employee was “nothing personal”.
