A video clip that has gone viral shows a senior health official’s car hitting a security guard in Nonthaburi and dragging him along for quite a distance.
The driver of the vehicle has been named as Dr Yorn Chiranakhon, a senior official at the Public Health Ministry.
From the clip, his car appeared to have stopped for several seconds after hitting the victim, but then moved forward dragging the man along with it.
The victim is 22-year-old Somchai Yarmdee, who has sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment at Nangklao Hospital in Nonthaburi.
The accident took place in the compound of the Public Health Ministry at about 8.30pm last Friday.
Muang Nonthaburi police station superintendent Pol Colonel Pannapat Dejchotepisit said Yorn was at the scene of the accident when police arrived.
“He admitted to having caused the accident, but refused to undergo a breathalyser test,” Pannapat said.
Police intend charging Yorn with reckless driving that caused serious injury to another person, as well as drunk-driving, he added. Damrongrit Jitthavornmanee, a taxi motorcyclist, said he believed the driver must have been aware that his car had hit someone, but still drove on. “I witnessed the incident. The car stopped a bit, before moving forward again,” he said.
