SINGAPORE – Two electronic road pricing (ERP) gantries leading to the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) will be activated in the evenings from next Monday (Feb 20), the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced.

The gantries to be activated are situated at the slip roads at Adam Road and Mount Pleasant Road, leading to the PIE, the LTA said in a statement on Monday (Feb 13).

The LTA will also be revising the ERP rates at two other gantries along northbound route on the Central Expressway (CTE), after the PIE. This will also come into effect from Feb 20.

According to the LTA, these measures were introduced after the authority completed its first quarterly review on traffic conditions for 2017.

The review found that traffic conditions along the eastbound route on the PIE during the evening peak hours deteriorated in recent years – in particular, the areas near Adam Road and Mount Pleasant have experienced heavy congestion, with traffic speeds significantly below the optimal range of 45kmh to 65kmh, with vehicles regularly travelling below 40kmh.

The LTA said the review also showed that that traffic speeds along the stretch of the south-bound Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) – between Tampines Expressway and Airport Road – during the morning peak hours on weekdays have consistently remained below the optimal speed range, with speeds dipping to as low as 30kmh.

To manage this congestion, works have already commenced to prepare for the activation of the ERP gantry situated at the Tampines slip road into KPE (ECP), just before the KPE tunnel entrance.

The LTA said it will continue to monitor the traffic speeds along KPE in the next quarter, before finalising the ERP operating hours and rates.
