Casio’s G-Steel is built for durability, thanks to a double-layer bezel and solar-powered battery

If you want a watch that is resistant to water and shock, and with great battery life, look no further than the Casio G-Steel.

The G-Steel series, part of the G-Shock line of shock-resistant watches, was first released in August last year.Casio added six more models to the mix earlier this year.

The most recent additions include the shiny metal-banded GST-210D, the GST-210B with a resin-coloured band that contrasts with its metal casing, and the sophisticated GST-200CP, which also has a resin band but with a metal crystal grain pattern and a gold-coloured face.

Here are three things you need to know about the G-Steel:

FOR THE RUGGED

Do not be fooled by its metallic finish, the G-Steel is for those who like it rugged. Its shock resistance comes from its layer guard structure – a double-layer bezel combining different materials for durability.

It is also water resistant up to 200m and is solar-powered. Its rechargeable battery lasts up to eight months on normal use without exposure to light, or 19 months when stored.

FULL SUITE OF FEATURES

Its full suite of features includes settings for 31 time zones, up to five independent daily alarms with snooze, an hourly time signal and a full auto-calendar that lasts till 2099.

It also has a 1/100 second stopwatch with split timings, a countdown timer from 100 minutes, and accuracy to 15 seconds per month.

There are also double LED lights – one for the face for a selectable duration, and an LED backlight for the digital display – with afterglow.

This means you will still be able to tell the time, even if you are in a dimly lit place.

AFFORDABLE AND CLASSY

Priced from $349, the G-Steel is more affordable than its luxury-class siblings from the MT-G and MR-G lines, which cost in the thousands.

Yet its lustrous design still gives a luxurious feel, so it pairs well with a suit and tie for a fancy occasion.

Casio fans can also get discounts during their birthday month, make reservations, get updates on the latest models and earn points with the G-Factory mobile app, which will be launched today.

Users who sign up and complete a profile on the app by the end of this month will get a free G-Shock iRing and 50 rewards points. Also, get a portable speaker with any G-Steel purchase from now till Dec 31.
