A “thief” feasting on doughnuts in a supermarket in downtown Bangkok was caught red-handed by a shopper who was apparently eyeing the same doughnuts.

The shopper – who probably lost his appetite – promptly filmed the thief’s antics.

When the thief realised that he’d been seen, he scurried out of a narrow opening, leapt, and fled with his tail behind his legs.

The incident reportedly happened in the Tops supermarket branch in Sukhumvit Soi 33, said StickboyBangkok. The shop has since closed for a “major clean-up”, according to Thai news website Thairath.

It is not known if the thief was caught.

The “authorities” are still trying to decide if this case in Bangkok is linked to a similar case in an NTUC Fairprice supermarket in Singapore last month.

In the Singapore case, a thief feasted on a variety of breads and buns in an Hougang branch of the supermarket before being chased around the store by an irate shopper who discovered chewed-through packets on the shelves.

While the thief managed to elude the shopper, the store later said that he was caught on May 28.
