In January 2018, word got out that South Korean actor Song Seung-heon who is based in Korea and Chinese-American actress Liu Yifei based in China have called it quits, ending their relationship of three years.

Even though things didn’t work out for the Korean actor and Chinese actress, long distance relationships are not destined for failure.

Of course, it requires a great deal of commitment and communication. Here are some of the celebrity couples who prove that love transcends all boundaries.

Michelle Chen and Chen Xiao

The Taiwanese actress and Chinese actor met on set of the 2014-2015 adaption of the Louis Cha tale, “The Romance of the Condor Heroes” and sparks flew after they played the lovers, Yang Guo and his mentor Xiao Long Nu.

Their reel-to-real romance culminated with a wedding in Beijing and wedding banquet in Taipei in 2016. In the same wedding announcement made by Chen Xiao on his 29th birthday, the actor also announced that they were having a baby.

Local actress Joanne Peh and husband fellow actor Qi Yuwu, did not like most couples start off their relationship long distance. While the lovebirds have spent plenty of time together in the past, they became a long distance couple when Qi Yuwu moved to Beijing to further his acting career.

The two actors have co-starred many times before, even tying the knot in one local drama. They stayed as friends for ten years before they started dating in 2013.

Shortly after, the duo tied the knot in an intimate wedding held at Sentosa. Four years after their marriage, the parents of a 3-year-old girl and a baby boy are still as loving as ever.

In the same way that workplace romances happen all the time, it’s unsurprising that celebrities end up in relationships after working together.

Chinese actress Tang Wei who catapulted to fame through Ang Lee’s “Lust Caution” met her Korean film director husband through the 2009 film “Late Autumn” as actress and director, respectively.

When filming for “Late Autumn” wrapped, the two remained close friends until October of 2013 when Tang Wei visited Korea for a commercial shoot.

From then, they grew as a couple and finally sealed the deal in 2014 at a private wedding held on Faro Island Sweden, at the estate of filmmaker Ingmar Bergman.

Rainie Yang and Li Ronghao

Long distance relationships are never easy, especially if you are a Mandopop sensation. Chinese singer Li Ronghao and Taiwanese singer Rainie Yang have kept their romance under the radar. The low-profile couple has, however, continuously showed their support for one another on numerous instances.

One case in point would be when Rainie promoted Ronghao’s new song via her official Facebook page. In 2017, the cross-strait couple finally made their first stage appearance together after dating for nearly three years, at Li Rong Hao’s first concert in Taiwan.

The adorable pair did a duet before Li Ronghao went in for a kiss on the cheek. After the concert, Rainie posted a picture of her bae on Instagram with the lovey-dovey caption, “when I look into his eyes”.

Candyce Toh and Ang Junyang

The pair first met on local reality singing competition, “Project Superstar” as contestants and rivals. Even though dating rumours were rife, Candyce insisted that they only got together a year after the “Project Superstar”. They eventually tied the knot in 2009.

To pursue his career as a freelance producer, Junyang relocated to Taiwan while his wife stayed in Singapore. The lovebirds kept the romance alive by messaging each other daily.

Candyce would also fly to Taipei once every three months to reunite with her husband. Their long-distance romance finally came to an end when Junyang returned to Singapore for good during the trimester of Candyce’s pregnancy.

Janet Hsieh and Geroge Young

This good-looking pair first met on set of a commercial. George was appearing in the commercial while Janet was a model with the same agency that represented the former.

The Eurasian model-actor based in Singapore and the Taiwanese-American host based in Taiwan stayed as friends for ten years before getting together.

In 2015, the couple tied the knot in an exotic wedding among penguins in Antarctica. Two years later, the duo became proud parents to a baby boy.

Arissa Cheo and Vaness Wu

While this couple seems a little on-off in their relationship, but they look so good together, we would be remiss not to include them on this list. The local heiress and Taiwanese singer first met in 2006 on the set of Vaness’s “My Kingdom” music video.

They started dating soon after but the socialite’s father objected to the relationship because Vaness was in the entertainment industry. Even though the couple went through a breakup, they kept in contact. In 2010, the lovers reconciled and exchanged their wedding vows in 2013.

Chae Rim and Gao Ziqi

After a failed marriage with well-known Korean singer Lee Seung Hwan, the Korean actress decided to expand her career in China.

Life imitated art when Korean actress Chae Rim tied the knot with fellow co-star Gao Ziqi after appearing as a married couple in CCTV drama “Lee family” in 2013. In 2017, the “I’m Still Loving You” actress and the “My Fair Princess” actor welcomed their first child into their lives.

The couple has a daughter Julie, and a son, Harrison. Jaymee, who is based in Singapore, rarely gets to see her hubby.

Despite living in different parts of the world, this couple makes sure to schedule regular date nights and holidays without kids.
