International content streaming giant Netflix on Wednesday (Dec 7) announced that it has acquired the rights to the international broadcast of more than 20 Chinese-language series from local broadcaster Mediacorp.
The titles to air from early next year include the popular 2008-9 Peranakan-themed drama The Little Nyonya, starring Jeanette Aw and Joanne Peh, and The Dream Job, this year’s blockbuster drama starring Shaun Chen and Rebecca Lim.
Ms Jessica Lee, vice-president (communications) at Netflix Asia, says in a statement: “These popular local shows will now find new audiences all over the world.”
Netflix says it has more than 86 million members in more than 190 countries around the world.
