SINGAPORE – The rich culture and heritage of Teochews will be highlighted at Teochew Festival 2016, happening at Sands Expo and Convention Centre Level 1 Hall A from Dec 9 -18.

The festival, organised by Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan, was officially opened by Minister for Health, Mr Gan Kim Yong, this morning.

Visitors get a glimpse into the tough lives of early Teochew immigrants in Singapore through a display of Qiaopi (Remittance Letters) from overseas Chinese in the 1800s and 1900s at the cultural zone.

Besides cultural performances, Teochew crafts and live demonstrations by master craftsmen will also be on show at Teochew Festival 2016.

Foodies will be treated to an array of Teochew cuisines at the festival. Food plays a crucial role in Teochew culture and heritage. There will be a food street featuring 20 vendors comprising homegrown Teochew eateries Chui Huay Lim Teochew Cuisine and Chin Lee Restaurant, as well as food vendors from Shantou and Chaozhou, China.

A variety of Teochew specialities such as Bak Kut Teh, Crystal Dumplings, Fried Kway Teow and Fried Oyster Omelette will be served.

Some foods and ingredients are also air-flown directly from Shantou China to ensure that visitors get to enjoy the taste of authentic Teochew cuisines.

To encourage cashless transactions, only NETS payment is accepted at the fair.

Entrance tickets are priced at $10 each. The ticket holder can enjoy a $3 rebate at the Food Zone and Teochew Delicacies Zone. In addition, visitors can also enjoy full day parking at Marina Bay Sands at only $8 on weekdays.
