SINGAPORE – The Singapore Table Tennis Association said today (May 6) that paddlers Yu Mengyu and Gao Ning have qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympics through their world rankings.
The association said the two will be joining team mates Feng Tianwei and Chen Feng to compete in the singles event.
Gao is ranked 33 while Yu is ranked 17, based on the latest International Table Tennis Federation Olympics world ranking list.
Yu will be making her Olympic debut in Rio de Janeiro in August this year. “It’s my first time going to the Olympics and I am so happy that my hard work has paid off,” she said in the statement.
This is the third time that Gao has qualified for the Olympics. “Compared to Beijing and London, I feel that I have a lot more experience under my belt and I do feel more confident,” he said.
