South Korean boy band GOT7 has been crowned one of this year’s Worldwide Act winners at the 2016 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs), said TV network Viacom in a press statement on Monday (Nov 7).
MTV recognises artistes from around the globe with the EMAs and this year’s list of winners includes five Asian winners.
Also hailing from South Korean, K-pop boy band, B.A.P, took home the prize for Best Korea Act, while Chinese superstar G.E.M. was the winner for Best Mainland China & Hong Kong Act.
Closer to home, the Best Southeast Asia Act went to Vietnamese female singer Đông Nhi.
This year’s EMAs was jam-packed with live musical performances from the likes of Green Day, The Weeknd and Bruno Mars, who performed his latest single, 24K Magic, in what is also his first global performance for the track.
The night’s biggest winner was none other than Justin Bieber, who led with three MTV EMAs including Best Song for his smash hit ‘Sorry’. The Biebs and Lady Gaga were head to head with two wins each before the start of the red carpet but all that changed when his supporters voted for him to bag home the Biggest Fans prize.
MTV also turned all the 2016 awards purple as a tribute to the late singer and pop icon Prince.
The show repeats tonight on MTV at 8pm (WIB) and 9pm (MY/PH/SG), and on MTV LIVE HD at 8.45pm (WIB) and 9.45pm (HK/MY/PH/SG).
