SEOUL –
A South Korean Special Prosecution Team investigating corruption scandal engulfed the president of the state, saying it had put the chairman of the National Pension Service (NPS) on an emergency detention earlier Wednesday.
The Special Prosecutor’s Office did not immediately provide further details about the arrest of NPS chairman Moon Hyung-pyo, but he said on Monday that he had suspected that Moon’s home was suspected of abusing power.
The Special Prosecutor has been looking for a $ 8 billion merger between the Moon and the US $ 8 billion a couple of pension funds that last year supported the Samsung Group (SAGR.UL), head of the Health and Welfare Department, which runs NPS.
The merger was criticized by some investors to reinforce the family’s control of the group at the expense of other shareholders.
In this case,
The scandal that affected the scandal led to the parliament vote on December 9 to sign President George W. Bush, whose decision must be supported or overturned by the Constitutional Court within 180 days.
A prosecutor told Reuters last week that investigators were also checking whether Samsung’s support for the company and Park’s friend Choi Soon-sil-supported foundations could be linked to NPS support consolidation.
The park denied the mistake, but apologized for the relationship with Choi, who also rejected the wrongdoing.
Last week, investigators attacked the world’s third largest pension fund NPS’s office.
According to South Korean law, the suspect can be without a warrant in the case of emergency arrests up to 48 hours.
