SINGAPORE — To mark 50 years of National Service (NS), Singapore Post Limited (SingPost) will be releasing a new set of six stamps featuring key milestones, such as the enlistment of the first batch of full-time National Servicemen and the passing of the National Service Bill in Parliament in 1967, among others.

Founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and former Minister for Defence, Dr Goh Keng Swee, are also featured on the stamps for their roles in the introduction of National Service (NS).

The stamps will be available from Tuesday (March 14) in five denominations: 30-cents, 70-cents, 90-cents, $1.30, and $2. A presentation pack with the complete set of stamps is priced at $7.70, while a collector’s sheet is available at $4, comprising two $2 stamps that feature embossed portraits of Mr Lee and Dr Goh. The latter collection is set against a backdrop containing an excerpt of Mr Lee’s speech at the sending-off dinner for the first batch of full-time National Servicemen.

A watermarked version of a $2 stamp with the release date – March 14, 2017 – will be sold at $2.85 each, while the remaining five stamps with the same release date watermark will be sold as a set at $4.45 each until March 19.

The stamps will be sold at all post offices and the Singapore Philatelic Museum. Pre-orders are also available, and the stamps may also be purchased online at shop.singpost.com.
