THE sale of used panties which were worn during sexual acts is now apparently all the rage in Singapore.

This was revealed by The New Paper on Monday after it found soiled undergarments being sold by young women who allegedly wore them.

In some cases, enterprising girls as young as 18 would even hand-deliver the panties to customers if the price was right.

Sold on social media platforms, pictures that are posted of the panties often accompany explicit photographs of the alleged wearer.

The daily also quoted a seller, an 18-year-old known as Joyce, who charged a minimum of SGD$20 (US$15) a pair.

One page cited by the paper “guaranteed to satisfy your school girl fetishes and much more”. The sellers also faced shortages as stocks were sold out within a week.

Although it is a crime to post nude and obscene photos online, the sale of such panties is not illegal, lawyers said.

“On the face of it, there appears to be no offence committed unless there is more to it.

“There can be an offence if it’s the posting of obscene material, but it would be difficult to prosecute,” criminal lawyer Ravinderpal Singh of Kalco Law was quoted as saying.

Another criminal lawyer, T.M. Sinnadurai, echoed Ravinderpal, saying used panties were regarded as used clothing, which is not illegal to be sold.

“But if it is attached with an obscene photo or video, then, yes, it is a crime,” he said.

A consultant psychiatrist at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Dr Brian Yeo, said this was simply a matter of a commercial transaction.

“They are selling a fantasy and it’s just to make money,” The New Paper quoted him saying.

“There’s nothing special about it and it happens in Japan.”
