A WEBSITE administrator who went out searching for Pokémon in the Singaporean Woodlands Waterfront park made an unexpected discovery when he found the body of a woman instead, barely a day after the augmented reality game was made available in the region.

According to the Straits Times, Noor Azmi, 29, came across the body floating face down in the water at a jetty situated in the park.

The finding yesterday led to him posting several grim images of the situation on his Facebook page.

In the post, Azmi said: “Rest in peace whoever you are.”

Azmi had reportedly shared some images of the body of the deceased woman but took them down after several netizens complained that it was insensitive to do so. However, the posting was shared over 7,000 times by the time they were deleted.

The Pokemon GO player said he was at the jetty to catch some water-based characters of the game for about half an hour when he notice a group of people looking at the body which was afloat in the water.

“It was totally unexpected. I had read reports of people finding bodies while playing Pokemon Go in other countries, but it never occurred to me that this would happen in Singapore or to me,” he was quoted as saying in the New Paper.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said its paramedics had pronounced the woman dead at the scene after receiving alerts on the discovery at about 9:45am on Sunday morning.

Police were investigating the case and have not ruled out foul play behind the incident.

Azmi was among those who highly anticipated the release of the smartphone-based game Pokémon GO, which was finally made available in several countries and regions in Asia and Oceania.
