Some residents use umbrellas in elevators because the heavy rain on Christmas Eve caused a large leak in one of Toa Payoh’s HDB flats and the other in Tampines.
One of the five elevators in Block 213, a fountain in the Facebook video, flows down from the ceiling.
The video received approximately 26,000 views, more than 600 times yesterday.
The MP of the area, Mr. Sitoh Yih Pin said, according to preliminary investigations, the gathering in the elevator lobby on the 17th floor could lead to water leakage to the Lift B shaft.
Jalan Besar City Council (JBTC) retained the estate, saying that the affected elevators were closed on the same night for “safety reasons”. The problem was corrected the next morning and the elevator returned to normal operation at noon, it added.
But several residents of the block said the leak in Lift B was a long-term problem since it was installed two years ago in the elevator upgrade program.
“It’s always raining when we have complained, but the water still goes into the elevator,” said Low Eng Kim, a 66-year-old retiree. “It’s on the 18th floor of the 9th floor,” says Low Eng Kim.
Said retired person Lee Chew Huat, 85, who lives on the 12th floor: “Sometimes we even need to use an umbrella inside.
Iris Goh, 66, said, “I did not dare take the elevator when it rained. I was afraid I might get struck or struck.
Residents added that elevator B often stopped working when the rains were heavy. When the Straits Times yesterday afternoon to visit the block, the same elevator failure.
But Mr. Sitoh said this was due to a separate elevator door sensor failure, which resulted in the elevator being shut down as a precaution.
He added that JBTC and the Lift Upgrade Advisor are detecting the cause of the leak and will take steps to prevent it from happening again.
On the other hand, the lift at Block 314, 33 Tampines Street, experienced the same tide of fate during heavy rains on 24 December. Residents told the “Xinmin Daily”, the elevator in the “rain” also occurred a few years ago.
MP Tampines GRC Desmond Choo said the main reason is that the elevator room above the elevator shaft waterproof performance is worn, so the water leaks into the room.
Heavy rain, he said, could be a contributing factor to the elevator shaft through the sixth-floor faulty door. “Our team is checking every block of the Tampines GRC to make sure it does not happen again,” he added.
