A three-year-old girl miraculously escaped with minor injuries after getting hit by a taxi in Hong Kong on May 16.
The incident, which was captured by Facebook user Jason Lau’s dashboard camera, shows the toddler running across a traffic junction on the extremely busy road, after ignoring a red light.
According to the South China Morning Post, the girl had run across Argyle Street in the Mong Kok district, towards her mother who was on the other side of the road.
While a bus on the rightmost lane managed to halt before hitting the child, a taxi moving on the extreme left did not stop in time. As a result, it hit the toddler, causing her to be slammed against the side of the moving cab.
The fast-moving taxi stopped immediately upon impact as eye-witnesses looked on in horror.
To everyone’s surprise, the girl got back on her feet before losing her balance and tumbling to the ground again.
Her 24-year-old mother, who was reportedly from mainland China, ran to her child and held her up with the help of two other passers-by. The 60-year-old cab driver also got out of his vehicle to check on the child.
The mother was also seen spanking the child after helping her up from the road.
Facebook users chastised the mother for being irresponsible. User Renault Rien said: “Wow she even spanked the girl after she got hit by the car/ good mom!!”.
South China Morning Post also reported that the girl was rushed to a hospital and was discharged after receiving treatment for some minor facial injuries.
