KUALA LUMPUR: Among the Malaysians who will be rooting for Adinda Tasya Mansor as she tries to sing her way to be the champion of the China reality TV show Let’s Sing Kids is none other than the singer she has been compared to – Shila Amzah.

And more importantly, Adinda has received a stamp of approval from the Malaysian star.

Ever since the 11-year-old girl from Taiping, Perak, blew audiences and Malaysians away with her stunning performance on the fourth season of the programme on July 2, she has been nicknamed “Little Shila”.

The clip of her rendition during a prelude of the show on Hunan TV has since gone viral.

While Shila has not met Adinda, she has seen the video of the talented lass belting out Lin Yu-chun’s Next Stop in the Future in Mandarin.

“Someone shared the video with me and I got curious when people started calling her Little Shila, so I watched it. She sounds great!

“I just wish she had worn more colourful clothes!” quipped the 26-year-old, a fashionista herself.

“To me, it is a great sign, and proof that language is no longer a barrier for anyone who wants to be a singer,” added Shila, who is back from Hong Kong where she is based, in a phone interview.

Having appeared on Let’s Sing Kids last year as a guest judge, Shila was optimistic about Adinda’s chances in the competition.

“I heard that (Taiwan-based Malaysian pop star) Gary Chaw is on the show too, so Adinda is in good hands,” she said.

Shila rose to international stardom in 2012 when she won Asian Wave, also a China reality TV singing show, so she knows a thing or two about making it in that country.

The Kuala Lumpur-born songstress released her debut Chinese-language album, My Journey, in April.

Adinda, a pupil of SJK(C) Sin Min in Taiping, is back in China for her third trip since June 1. The competition stage of Let’s Sing Kids is slated to start soon.
