Sea travel between Lombok and Bali closed for 24 hours for Hindu Day of Silence

As many as eight daily flights from Lombok International Airport in West Nusa Tenggara to Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali will not be in service on Tuesday in observance of Nyepi, or the Hindu Day of Silence, on the resort island.

Furthermore, the Lembar Port in West Lombok, which serves sea travel between Lombok and Bali, will close for 24 hours during the day.

“We halted the flights to Bali to respect the observance of Nyepi there,” Putri Muslimah, the spokesperson for PT Angkasa Pura I, the operator of Lombok International Airport, said in Mataram on Monday.

The affected flights are Garuda Indonesia flight number GA 7049, which normally departs at 6:15 a.m., local time, Wings Air IW 1857 (7:15 a.m.), IW 1853 (10:00 a.m.), IW 1851 (11:45 a.m.), GA 451 (1:05 p.m.), GA 437 (5:25 p.m.), IW 1963 (5:40 p.m.) and Lion Air JT 955 (6:15 p.m.)

All these flights will resume normal operations on Wednesday.

As many as 29 other flights connecting Lombok with other cities such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Surakarta, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore are not affected.

Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport will halt operations on Tuesday at 6 a.m. until 6 a.m. the following day.

At least 193 domestic flights and 131 international flights will be affected.
