SINGAPORE: Claims that the roof of Punggol Waterway Terraces has collapsed are a hoax, the Housing and Development Board said on Friday evening (Nov 11).

On Friday afternoon, alternative news site All Singapore Stuff published an article with the following claim from a person it described as a contributor: “This just happened. The top floors of Punggol Waterway Terraces collapsed!”

The contributor, who was identified as “Bhagonwali”, added: “Previous (sic), the owners of the Built-to-Order (BTO) flats had taken to the Internet to voice their unhappiness over the poor workmanship of their flats.”

The report was deleted from the All Singapore Stuff website about half an hour later.

HDB debunked the report with a post on Facebook which said: “TGIF, it’s time to reax! But don’t be fooled by an online hoax … Doesn’t its roof remind you of the terraced rice fields of Asia?” It added that it would inform police about the hoax.

When Channel NewsAsia visited the scene on Friday afternoon, police and Singapore Civil Defence Force officers had set up a cordon, but the incident was confirmed to be a false alarm.

Punggol Waterway Terraces, the first public housing project along My Waterway@Punggol, boasts “waterfront living” features, undulating balconies and cascading roof gardens.
