Singapore: After detecting elevated patulin levels, the Singapore Food Authority (SFA) ordered the recall of another batch of Ceres 100% apple juice on Friday (October 29).
This happened two weeks after the recall of two batches of products was ordered earlier.
SFA stated that due to fungal contamination before and after harvest, patulin may be present in fruits such as apples.
“If ingested for a long time, the detected levels of patulin may cause the product to be unsafe for consumption,” it added.
The latest recall affects Ceres 100% apple juice in a 1-liter package. The best use date is June 29, 2022, and the country of origin is South Africa.
The previous batches are:
- Ceres 100% Apple Juice 200ml package, best before date is June 14, 2022, country of origin is South Africa
- Ceres 100% Apple Juice 1 liter package, the best use date is June 17, 2022, the country of origin is South Africa
SFA stated that the latest recall of importer Naspac Marketing is underway.
Ingestion of large amounts of patulin from food may cause nausea, gastrointestinal disturbances and vomiting. The agency said that short-term exposure without excessive intake is unlikely to cause health problems.
It is recommended that people who purchase the affected product do not drink it. SFA stated that those who have consumed the product and are concerned about their health should seek medical advice.
