SINGAPORE — Two sections of Upper Aljunied Road will be permanently closed to traffic from Sunday (March 12) to make way for Heritage Walk in the Bidadari estate.
The road between Upper Serangoon Road and Bidadari Park Drive, which is currently under construction, and the part which joins Mount Vernon Road to the realigned Upper Aljunied Road will close to traffic as work begins to transform the stretch into a 700m Heritage Walk.
With the closure, motorists can start using a new realigned Upper Aljunied Road, which has also been widened to accommodate an additional lane in each direction.
Currently, the road cuts through where the future Alkaff Lake and the Bidadari Park are slated to be under the Bidadari Masterplan that was launched in 2013.
The remaining stretch of the existing Upper Aljunied Road leading to Vernon Park Road, as well as the Mount Vernon Columbarium and the funeral parlours will remain open to traffic, and will be connected to the new realigned Upper Aljunied Road.
The road closure also means that the junction at Upper Serangoon Road and Upper Aljunied Road will be removed. Motorists can instead use a new U-turn under the Upper Serangoon Road viaduct.

Barricades and diversion signs will be put up to guide motorists.
Since November 2015, the HDB has launched some 4,800 flats in six new-generation public housing projects in Bidadari. These flats have seen strong response, averaging more than five applicants to one flat.
This year, another 1,340 units will be offered for sale in May, comprising a mix of 2-room Flexi, 3-room, 4-room, 5-room and 3Gen flats.
