SINGAPORE – Parkway Parade re-opened to customers on Friday (May 20) after being shut for four days following a fire, but not all shops are open.
“We are pleased to announce that Parkway Parade mall is now open, following the rigorous testing, clean up and rectification works due to a fire incident that recently closed the mall,” said the mall in a press release today.
No one was injured when the fire occurred at Fox Kids and Baby, a clothing store on the second floor of the mall, on Sunday (May 15) night.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
During the time that the mall was closed, the mall took the opportunity to clean up and carry out maintenance works.
For instance, The Straits Times reported that some lifts and escalators were shut down for maintenance on Friday morning when it visited, as they had been affected by the fire.

Some stores, including Mothercare and Winter Time on the second floor, and Uniqlo at Basement 1 remained closed.
Department store, Isetan, only opened its first floor to customers, reported The Straits Times. The second level will remain closed for a few more days for further clean-ups.

Jenny Khoo, GM of Parkway Parade said: “The Management team at Parkway Parade is very thankful and appreciative of the support, understanding and patience of our retailers, shoppers and occupants…I would like to apologise for all the inconveniences caused during this period.”
“Some rectification works are still ongoing in parts of the mall, and we aim to complete them as soon as possible,” she added.
A team of experts has been assembled to facilitate the cleaning, testing and rectification works, which include recovery works to the fire protection and electrical systems.
