With effect from Oct 1, 2020, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will reinstate the 14-day VEP renewal requirement for all foreign-registered cars and motorcycles.

The LTA will impose penalties on vehicles with expired VEPs from Oct 15, 2020 onwards.

Motorists can choose to settle their VEP fees and apply to extend their VEP validity period at the 810 AXS Stations conveniently located across Singapore.

Man, 45, arrested after raining blows on motionless victim at Sengkang void deck

His victim lay motionless, but that did not stop one 45-year-old man from kicking, punching and stomping on him in full view of shocked bystanders.

The man, who was not identified, was arrested for voluntarily causing grievous hurt and suspected drug-related offences after his violent rampage at Block 182A Rivervale Crescent on Tuesday (Sept 22) afternoon, police said.

The 47-year-old on the receiving end of the man’s blows was conscious when conveyed to Sengkang General Hospital, they added.

The perpetrator had apparently recommended the victim for a cleaning job. However, their relationship soured due to the latter’s lacklustre work and led to the altercation, Shin Min Daily News reported.

The two men argued before exchanging blows, an eyewitness told the Chinese daily.

In the course of the fight, the victim fell to the ground, but the other man did not let up on him, he said.

SINGAPORE – A policeman was sentenced on Wednesday (Sept 23) to two years’ jail, after receiving sexual favours from two women who were the subjects of separate police investigations.

Mahendran Selvarajoo, now 32, had pleaded guilty to two counts of corruption and two counts for offences under the Computer Misuse Act.

The court heard that one of the women performed a sex act on him in a multi-storey carpark at Block 590 Ang Mo Kio Street 51 in February last year.

Mahendran, who has been suspended since May 15 last year, had sex with the other woman in a multi-storey carpark at Block 264 Serangoon Central two months later.

The two women cannot be named because of a gag order.

Horsing around: Woman asks for face mask, friends buy her horse head

0

What are friends for, if not some good old-fashioned horsing around?

While losing your face mask can be an anxiety-inducing situation nowadays, a woman’s friends certainly lightened the mood when they presented her with a unique replacement — a rubber horse head.

Taking to Twitter on Monday (Sept 21) to share the trio’s escapades, Mia, 26, shared that she’d accidentally dropped her mask on the ground while she was out with her friends.

She then enlisted the pair, Taufiq and Ikhwan, to buy her a new face mask. But her friends’ choice of mask had her crying foal.

“I honestly did not expect them to come back with a horse mask instead”, she told World of Buzz.

Well, you know what they say about not looking a gift horse in the mouth — while it wasn’t exactly what she had asked for, Mia gamely put the horse head-on and even took it for a spin around a Sheng Siong supermarket outlet.

SINGAPORE – Fun seekers heading to the beaches in Sentosa will now have to make bookings ahead of their visit to better facilitate Covid-19 safe management measures.

From Oct 17, people who want to visit the beaches during peak periods, including weekends and public holidays, will have to make reservations first.

The booking system will be trialled for an initial period of three months for Tanjong, Palawan and Siloso beaches, said Sentosa Development Corporation in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 23).

It added that crowds have been observed at these sites during peak periods.

The three beaches have also been segmented into a total of seven zones, each with a capacity limit of between 100 and 350 to allow for safe distancing.

Guests may pre-book their entry up to seven days before their intended beach visits, subject to capacity limits. For its initial roll-out, the reservation system will begin accepting bookings from Oct 10, for visits commencing Oct 17.

Bookings can be made at this website.

Guests may choose from two times lots to visit – the morning period (8am to 1pm), or afternoon (2pm to 7pm).

They may make reservations for up to five people in each booking and will receive an e-mail confirming their selected beach zone and time slot.

On the day of visit, guests should approach the beach entry kiosk of their selected zone, and present their confirmation e-mail for verification.

Covid-19 Support Grant extended to Dec 31, but with new eligibility criteria

0

[ad_1]

SINGAPORE – A grant that helps Singaporeans and permanent residents who lost their jobs or suffered significant income loss due to the pandemic will be extended to the end of this year, but with revised eligibility criteria.

From Oct 1, those applying for the Covid-19 Support Grant (CSG) should also not own more than one property. This is to ensure that the support is given to those with less means, said the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) in an update on Tuesday (Sept 22).

All those who are unemployed and are applying for the CSG must also demonstrate job search or training efforts to qualify for the help, added the MSF in a statement.

The ministry said the Government’s SGUnited Jobs and Skills Package helps workers affected by the economic impact of the pandemic acquire job-related skills and capabilities and access expanded employment opportunities.

“In line with these efforts, all CSG applicants, whether first- or second-time applicants, who are unemployed must demonstrate job search or training efforts to qualify for CSG support,” said the MSF.
