India's Mallya resigns from parliament's upper house: TV reports
NEW DELHI – Embattled Indian liquor tycoon Vijay Mallya has resigned as a member of the country’s upper house of Parliament, several television news channels reported on Monday.
Mallya, 60, flew first class from Delhi to London on March 2 at a time when the Indian government and mainly state-controlled banks are trying to recover US$1.4 billion (S$1.88 billion) owed by his collapsed Kingfisher Airlines Ltd.
The government wrote to its British counterpart on Thursday seeking the deportation of the Formula 1 motor racing boss, who is the target of a non-bailable warrant in a money laundering investigation.
India has already revoked the diplomatic passport that Mallya carried as a member of the upper house.

Radiohead social media goes blank, raising album hopes
LONDON – Radiohead’s social media profiles went blank Monday as speculation mounted that the British band was about to release a new album.
All posts, pictures and details from Radiohead’s Twitter and Facebook accounts were deleted, along with tweets by lead singer Thom Yorke.
Radiohead is to give a series of concerts in six cities around the world from May 20 and will play eight festivals later in the year.
The band has not released any details of its next album other than to confirm it has been in the studio.
The new album would be the band’s ninth, following 2011’s “The King of Limbs”.
Radiohead has sold more than 30 million albums since releasing its first in 1993.
In recent days, some Radiohead fans in Britain have received a mysterious leaflet in the post which said: “Sing The Song Of Sixpence That Goes Burn The Witch We Know Where You Live”.
It was embossed with a logo associated with the band.

Chinese fisherman catches mysterious creature from the deep sea
Some people insist it looks more like a dolphin or crocodile because of its long mouth. Others think it resembles a sturgeon.
Whatever it is, many were stumped when they saw images and a video on NetEase of the strange sea creature that a fisherman reeled in recently.
The unusually shaped fish looks somewhat cute – yet scary – to most who have never seen anything like it before. It was nabbed in the coastal waters of Zhoushan city in China’s Zhejiang province.
The video, which went viral, has caught the attention of experts from a Chinese science journal. They reckon that it is most likely to be a beaked whale, as indicated by the two bumps on its lower jaw, reported Shanghaiist.
They said the whale species normally live in the deep sea, hence it is rarely spotted.
There were no reports of what happened to the fish after that. Knowing the Chinese penchant for trying exotic sea creatures, some might wonder whether it had ended up on the dining table of an expensive restaurant.
