Glass panel falls from 5th floor swimming pool of Whampoa condominium
SINGAPORE – A glass panel from a swimming pool of a condominium crashed to the ground from the fifth floor on Friday (July 8) afternoon.
The incident occurred at Cradels @ Whampoa condominium, off Balestier Road, The Straits Times reported.
Ms Shuli Sudderudin, 31, who lives in the condominium beside Cradels@Whampoa, said she heard a loud crash when she was at home.
Ms Shuli told The Straits Times that when she walked past the site 30 minutes later, she looked up to see water pouring from the swimming pool at Cradels@Whampoa , and witnessed a glass panel crashing to the ground.
Describing the scene as “dramatic”, she said people were rushing out and yelling for her to move away.
Ms Shuli took a photo which showed a glass panel dangling in mid air, while a video on the news site captures it crashing to the ground.
A number of panels around the pool appeared to be missing.
According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force, they were alerted to the incident at 2.32pm and no injuries were reported.

Taiwan police locks down suspect after train blast
Taiwan police said Friday they suspected a 55-year-old man of setting off a pipe bomb on a train in Taipei, injuring 25.
The blast, which occurred late Thursday as the train was pulling into a station, was earlier ruled out as a terrorist attack but left many passengers suffering burns and five were initially reported as in critical condition.
The suspect surnamed Lin is among those severely injured and is currently in the hospital, according to the National Police Agency.
“But as he suffered serious injuries… he is unable to speak, so we are not yet able to make further interrogations,” Wang Pao-chang, head of the agency’s Taipei branch, told reporters.

Lin’s motive remains unclear and the police are still investigating whether he had any accomplices, Wang added.
DNA on a red canvas bag found in the carriage’s toilet matched that of the suspect, whose clothing and shoes were also marked with gunpowder, according to a police statement.
Two passengers in the carriage recalled that the explosion happened after a middle-aged man made a pulling motion with a tube-shaped object, it added.
Premier Lin Chuan said the blast was caused by someone with “malicious intent”.
Police said a 47-centimetre steel pipe filled with explosive material appeared to be the cause of the blast, which Wang said was a “roughly made” improvised explosive.
Local media quoted eyewitnesses as saying they had seen a man carry a black rectangle-shaped object onto the train.
Images from inside the train carriage showed shattered glass on the floor and part of a side wall blackened by flames.
Passengers rushed off the train once it reached the station.
“I saw fire from the lights and I heard a sound and my hair was on fire,” one woman told a local news channel.
The last major attack on Taipei’s public transit was when a college student killed four people in a stabbing spree in 2014 on the metro, shocking the island and prompting a security overhaul.

Johor crown prince launches 'educate people through football' project
PETALING JAYA – Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has launched a nationwide project to educate Malaysians through football.
“Today, I would like to officially announce to Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) fans around the world that I will be launching a new project entitled ‘Educating people through football’, which will be implemented from our academy, across Johor and Malaysia,” said Tunku Ismail on the Johor Southern Tigers’ Facebook page Friday.
He said the aim of the project is to educate youths through football with the slogan “academics come before football”.
“The purpose of this is to make them better individuals in life as well as footballers or other professions,” said Tunku Ismail.
He added that JDT would take the initiative in order to provide youths with “the best education”.
“Knowledge has no boundaries and exposure is the best experience,” said Tunku Ismail.
Tunku Ismail also congratulated Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Khaled Nordin and the state government for their role in education and for their contributions towards the people of Johor.
Meanwhile, Tunku Ismail also wrote about JDT’s progress in being able to send its players and officials to Europe and Japan without any cost to the club apart from the price of the flight tickets.
He announced that through its sports ministry, the Japanese government had come up with a budget to “cater for JDT players and officials to go and learn everything regarding football projects in Japan”.
Tunku Ismail added that the club will also be able to send players and officials to Spain, Germany, and France.
“I’m blessed to know all these great people from these countries and be able to foster this relationship with their respective clubs,” he said.
Last year, JDT become the first Malaysian team to win the AFC Cup.
Earlier, Tunku Ismail had said that he felt that a major stumbling block in the growth of the sports in Malaysia is education – or the lack of it.
“Education in this country has to change first. It is about upbringing. If we have a professionally-run academy that implements professionalism, then you will have a different product. We have not had the foundation and suddenly you want to send the boys abroad,” he said.

SP Services customers hit by phone scam
SINGAPORE – Phone scammers have been targeting customers of Singapore Power Services, claiming that their utilities accounts are in arrears or that their electricity meters need to be changed.
They are then asked to make payment to a designated bank account.
SP Services put up a notice warning customers to be wary of such calls.
It stated: “These calls are not from SP Services. Recipients should ignore such requests.”
