Bake cheese tart shop to open second outlet at Westgate
Popular Japanese cheese tart shop Bake will be opening its second store in Singapore at Westgate on Oct 17.
For a week from the opening date, the first 50 customers per day who purchase 12 pieces, or two boxes, of cheese tarts will receive a free tote bag.
More Bake stores are expected in Singapore as the company has just appointed a Singaporean, Jason Koo, as Bake Confectionery CEO to “further improve and expand their business in the local market”, a representative for the brand’s Singapore operations said in a statement today (Oct 6).
Bake opened its first outlet here at Ion Orchard in April, to hours-long queues.
During peak periods, the store at B4 sells up to 6,000 cheese tarts, Bake said.
The cheese tarts cost $3.50 each, and a box of six tarts is priced at $19.50.

Iced Milo treat ahead of Nathan Hartono's competition
SINGAPORE – If you’re near Plaza Singapura tomorrow between 11am and 8pm, why not head down to the Milo van there and drink a free Milo peng (iced Milo) to celebrate Nathan Hartono’s achievement in reality TV singing competition Sing! China.
Nestle Singapore said in a statement today (Oct 6) that it’s fulfilling its promise to treat Singaporeans to Milo peng in support of Hartono, who will be competing in the finals of the competition tomorrow evening in Beijing.
In an interview with The Straits Times, published on Saturday, Hartono had promised: “If I win, I will rent a fleet of Milo vans and treat everybody to Milo peng.”
When Milo Singapore got wind of that promise, it told Hartono “No need to rent, also can. Just tell us where, we bring the van” in a Facebook post.
Milo has said that its van will also be going to “one location each across the north, south, east, west and central districts of Singapore”, after Singaporeans responded overwhelmingly to its request for suggestions on where to park the van. Nestle Singapore said it will share details of the other locations when they are finalised
“Win or lose, Singaporeans will get their Milo peng. This is to show our appreciation for Nathan Hartono’s remarkable achievements, as well as all Singaporeans who have contributed to the country in one way or another,” said Nestle Singapore’s director of marketing communications and corporate affairs Chow Phee Chat.

Night Safari gives baby elephant 'loving' name of Neha
SINGAPORE – After five months, Night Safari’s baby elephant finally has a name.
She’s called Neha, which means “loving” in Sanskrit and “symbolises the love her elephant and human family showers on her”, Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) said in a Facebook post today (Oct 6).
WRS also gave an update on Neha’s development in a statement; the Asian elephant has started experimenting on solid foods by trying to munch on bananas, but her staple diet is still her mum’s milk.
Neha has been steadily gaining weight at a rate of 1-2kg daily – which is normal for an elephant – and is now 352kg, more than double her weight at birth.
After her daily morning walks, the “exceedingly playful and carefree” elephant spends her afternoons scaling the mud mountain in her exhibit.
“Her infectious joy almost always prompts the other adult females to join in, leaving them all dolled up in an orange sheen in time to welcome guests to Night Safari when dusk falls,” WRS said.

Neha also loves to play with her favourite elephant aunty, Tun.
The new star of Night Safari is the offspring of Chawang and Sri Nandong, and is adopted by Japan travel agency, JTB. She is the youngest among Night Safari’s six Asian elephants, four of which are females.
Asian elephants are listed as endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, more so than their African counterparts.
There are an estimated 40,000 to 50,000 Asian elephants left in the wild today.
