Indian boss gives 1,260 cars, 400 flats and jewellery as Deepavali bonus to staff
NEW DELHI – A generous diamond tycoon in India is once again giving away hundreds of cars and flats to his employees as a bonus for meeting company targets.
Savjibhai Dholakia, who runs a diamond export firm in the city of Surat, announced his company will give 1,260 cars, 400 flats and pieces of jewellery to his employees ahead of the Hindu festival of Diwali which falls on the weekend.
“Our aim is that each employee must have his own home and car in the next five years. So we have decided to gift cars, homes and jewellery to employees,” Dholakia, owner of the Hare Krishna Exports, told AFP.
He said the rewards were in recognition of the outstanding performance and dedication shown by employees in the last five years.

Most employees receive presents of some kind from their bosses during Diwali, the festival of lights, but they are usually boxes of Indian sweets.
But Dholakia has been making headlines by giving expensive gifts to his employees since 2012, when three employees received cars for their performance.
The generous boss gave 491 cars and 207 flats to his employees under a similar programme in 2014.
The company will exclude previous year’s beneficiaries from the new scheme.
His firm is one of the leading polishing companies in India’s diamond hub Surat and exports diamonds to some 75 countries.

Chinese actress-model Lynn Hung marries
HONG KONG – Model Lynn Hung is now Mrs Kwok.
Hung, who dated pop star Aaron Kwok for seven years, announced her marriage to Hong Kong businessman Ken Kwok, 38, on Thursday.
On Weibo, she wrote simply, “We’re married,” and attached photos taken that day at a lawyer’s office.
Hung’s manager was their witness when they signed the marriage papers.
Hung’s announcement came a day after Aaron Kwok turned 51, said Apple Daily.
Ken Kwok, the younger brother of actress Kenix Kwok, is said to have been married for a year before splitting up from his wife in 2013.
He and Hung, 36, started dating in 2014, the year after she and Aaron Kwok split up.
She confirmed their engagement in March.

Geek out and learn science at the same time at the Avengers exhibition
SINGAPORE – For fans of Marvel’s superhero movies, the Avengers exhibition opening at the Science Centre tomorrow (Oct 29) is your chance to geek out.
Singapore’s edition of Marvel’s Avengers STATION – which stands for Scientific Training And Tactical Intelligence Operative Network – will be the biggest yet, at over 2,000 square metres and with displays chosen from the previous four editions of the show, the organisers said.
The exhibition – which has had runs in New York, Seoul, Paris and Las Vegas – will run from tomorrow to March 5, 2017.
So, what can you expect at the show? Plenty of interaction with exhibits and with an app that you can download free on your smartphone.
AsiaOne was able to experience the show before its opening, and we had a blast.
Visitors to the show take up the role of STATION recruits and train to join the Avengers. The exhibition feeds Avengers trivia and information about the science behind these heroes to recruits.
Always wanted to know why the Hulk is green? There’s a “hypothesis” here that’s not even in the movies.
What makes Captain America great? Well, his brain was apparently also enhanced when he underwent the transformation that changed him from a sickly kid into a super soldier.
Apart from games you can play, like testing your reflexes and strength against Captain America’s, you’ll also be able to see real costumes from the movies as well as preserved specimens of the alien invaders who wrecked havoc in New York (The Avengers) and Greenwich (Thor: The Dark World).
Geek out to the towering Hulkbuster Iron Man armour at the show – it’s over 3m tall.
A tip for people going to the show: Use the app and take plenty of selfies! That’s part of the fun for this show.
Before going home, don’t forget to pick up some merchandise that you can add to your Avengers collection!
Tickets for the show are $30 for adults and $22 for children (3 to 12 years old). Singaporeans and PRs pay $25 per adult and $18 per child. The show runs daily 10am to 6pm.

Ong Ye Kung and Ng Chee Meng promoted to full Ministers of education
SINGAPORE – The Ministry of Education will have two new full ministers in Mr Ong Ye Kung and Mr Ng Chee Meng, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced on Friday (Oct 28).
Mr Ng Chee Meng and Mr Ong Ye Kung, who are currently Acting Minister for Education (Schools) and Acting Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) respectively, will be promoted to full ministers in the current portfolios.
Mr Ng, who is also Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Transport, will be 2nd Minister in the Ministry of Transport.
Mr Ong will also be the 2nd Minister in the Ministry of Defence, a promotion from his current Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence portfolio.
“These promotions are part of leadership renewal and will take effect on Nov 1,” PMO said in its statement.
