180 soccer coaches from Qingdao, Shandong Province, China, started a training program hosted by a German Bayern Munich professional coach.

The project was signed after a Chinese and German government signed a football cooperation agreement in Berlin in November.

The event was held in the Sino-German Ecological Park in Qingdao, China, which is the only strategic cooperation between the Chinese government.

It is headed by Bayern Munich international project coach Sebastian Dremmler and his colleague Antonio Vatany, who plans to end on February 24th.

“Our responsibility here is to try to teach Chinese football teachers about Bayern Munich’s youth development philosophy and help them apply it,” Dremmer said.

Chinese coaches are divided into four groups, each with three days of basic training, including theoretical and practical training.

“Each Chinese coach will be checked after the training and the certificate will be awarded to those passing coaches, and the successful coach will have the opportunity to attend a higher level of training,” Dremmler said.

Qingdao Municipal Education Bureau official Sui Shiyu said that training is more advanced than most domestic training programs because Chinese coaches are given specific instructions rather than general guidance.

In October, Sino-German Ecological Park and Bayern Munich signed an agreement in Berlin to establish the first Bayern Munich soccer school in China.

Thirteen of his family members made the trip to Bangkok to see him make his debut for Big Bang Chula United (BBCU) last Sunday.

Donning the No. 88 jersey, Hafiz Abu Sujad was eager to reward them with a victory at the Nonthaburi Youth Centre Stadium.

Alas, BBCU fell 1-0 to Rayong FC in their opening fixture of the Thai League 2 M-150 Championship.

But, the left-footed Singapore international took heart from his showing, and believes things will get better.

The 26-year-old said: “I was excited to start my first game in Thailand, but of course disappointed that we lost.

“Playing at left back, I managed to overlap, get some shots and crosses, but it was unlucky that we couldn’t finish.

“To be defending for 90 minutes is hard, but I think as a team we can improve.”

Hafiz is relishing the experience, but admitted that it’s a steep learning curve he is on.

But men’s world No. 1 Chen Long’s record at the OUE Singapore Open has been mysteriously mediocre – two second-round exits in 2011 and 2015, and a quarter-final finish last year.

The 28-year-old will be desperate to go all the way this time around, after confirming that he will lead a 23-strong China team for the US$350,000 ($496,000) event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium from April 11 to 16.

He said: “Everyone goes into a competition hoping to win and I am no different. I want to do my best to thank the fans who have been supporting me at the Indoor Stadium.

“I also hope they will come and support me at the OUE Singapore Open in April.”

With badminton legends Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei approaching the end of their illustrious careers, Chen gave the clearest indication that he is ready to dominate the sport when he finally added the Olympic gold to his medal collection in Rio last August, by beating Lee 21-18, 21-18.

Since then, he took an extended break from the sport to spend time with his girlfriend, retired shuttler and former world No. 1 Wang Shixian.
