SINGAPORE – The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has issued more than 700 advisories to cyclists and personal mobility device (PMD) users caught riding in an unsafe manner since May.
LTA said in a statement today (Oct 5) that it has carried out over 400 enforcement deployments across Singapore since May, with emphasis on HDB towns and industrial estates.
Instances of reckless behaviour observed include riding power-assisted bicycles on footpaths and failing to give way to pedestrians.
LTA said that its enforcement officers have been educating cyclists and PMD users on the rules and conducts recommended by the Active Mobility Advisory Panel and accepted by the Government this year, and have also been distributing educational materials.
LTA declined to reveal the size of its team of enforcement officers, but said that members of the public can expect two to three enforcement deployment per day, with each typically lasting between two and three hours.
