SINGAPORE: ION Orchard and The Centrepoint malls were named as Orchard Road’s best-dressed this Christmas, the Orchard Road Business Association (ORBA) said in a press release on Thursday (Dec 8).

The Centrepoint emerged as the favourite among voters for its larger-than-life kitchen manned by gingerbread men. The display also features a gumball glasshouse for visitors to climb into, a candy cane throne and a giant chocolate fountain.

The concept was about “bringing out the child in all of us”, said Ms Stephanie Ho, General Manager for Frasers Centrepoint Malls.

“We pushed the limits and brought to life highly Instagrammable and interactive decorations, including life-sized gingerbread men working up a storm in the pastry kitchen.”

The judges’ choice, meanwhile, was ION Orchard with its 20m tall Tiffany & Co tree adorned with crystals, orbs and pearls. There was also a Tiffany box at the base of the tree, which visitors could enter, as well as an interactive photo booth.

“We also have an outdoor Christmas maze decorated with glittering ornaments, towering hedges and larger-than-life reindeer, toy soldiers and Arctic penguins,” said Mr Chris Chong, Chief Executive of Orchard Turn Developments.

“All these make for terrific photo opportunities along with the Orchard Road Christmas light-up,” he added.

10 malls were vying for the awards, up from eight last year.

The eight other malls that entered this year’s contest – Forum The Shopping Mall, Orchard Central, orchardgateway, Paragon, Plaza Singapura, Tanglin Mall, TANGS at Tang Plaza and Wheelock Place – received merit awards for their decorations.
