KUALA LUMPUR – The police have said that they have arrested a woman holding a Vietnamese passport who is believed to be involved in the assassination of Kim Jong-nam (pic) at the KL International Airport 2 (KLIA2) on Monday.

The woman, believed to be in her mid-20s, was detained by police in front of the airport at about 9am on Wednesday. It is believed that she had returned to the airport to catch a flight to Vietnam.

Asked if the suspect was the woman pictured in the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, Deputy Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said, “It is her.”

“We recognised her from the footage and picked her up. We are holding her in the Selangor police headquarters for questioning.

“Yes, we believe she was involved in the incident on Monday,” he said.

He said police are now working with diplomats from North Korea and Vietnam to ascertain if the woman in their custody is truly of Vietnamese origin.

Noor Rashid said besides another female accomplice, police were also looking for “several more” suspects involved in the death.

Police sources said they were also looking for four men in connection with the case.

Jong-nam, the estranged half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, was assassinated by two women in KLIA2.

One of the women was caught on CCTV getting into a taxi before being driven off. She was fair-skinned and she was dressed in a white top and blue denim skirt.
