GEORGE TOWN – National shuttler Chan Peng Soon (pic) will receive RM100,000 (S$33,607) from the Penang government and another RM50,000 from a shopping mall here for having reached the Olympics badminton mixed doubles final.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng stated in his official Facebook page that Chan’s badminton partner Goh Liu Yang, from Malacca, will also be given RM25,000 by the state. He said the contribution was in recognition of their efforts.

Hunza Group founder Datuk Seri Khor Teng Tong will present Chan with a personal cash award of RM50,000 for his performance in the Olympics.

“It’s a token of encouragement for Chan’s hard work and dedication,” said Khor.

Chan and Goh won the silver in the match.

The Malacca government has also announced a RM50,000 incentive for the pair.

Meanwhile, mobile virtual network operator XOX Bhd announced that it will reward the pair with RM60,000 in cash.

“Malaysia looks ready for a historic medal haul at this event, and XOX will be rewarding all the athletes who receive medals in badminton as well as in other sports,” said XOX Bhd group managing director Datuk Eddie Chai in a statement.
