Myanmar capital on high security alert after assassination

Myanmar authorities issue a security alert in Naypyitaw after a human rights advocate was assassinated at the Yangon International Airport on Sunday.

A security alert has been issued in Naypyitaw after the shooting that took place at the Yangon International Airport on Sunday, says unidentified police officer from Nay Pyi Taw Council Police Force.

Police Forces have undertaken to reinforce its presence in Naypyitaw after Ko Ni, human rights advocate and legal advisor of the the National League for Democracy (NLD) party, was assassinated by a gunman at the Yangon Airport at about 5pm on Sunday.

“We are now on security alert after the shooting on Sunday.

No instructions on how to carry out the security tasks have been issued yet.

But, we have sent in our reinforcements for escorts to the heads of state and MPs,” said a high ranking officer from the Naypyitaw Police Force.

Since the beginning of January 29, security for the State Counsellor is on high alert.

Moreover, police force have reinforced its presence along parliament buildings since January 30.

Authorities are now patrolling around the Naypyitaw round the clock.
