SINGAPORE – A motocyclist died in an accident at the Kranji Expressway (KJE) on Thursday (March 16) afternoon.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to an accident at about 3.50pm at the KJE towards the Bukit Timah Expressway.

A 57-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Straits Times understands that the motorcyclist skidded after he was struck by a tyre that fell off a trailer truck.

A dashcam video of the accident that has been circulating on social media shows that the tyre came from the opposite side of the highway.

It bounced across the road divider and struck the victim and his motorcycle, then narrowly missed another motorcyclist as it tumbled across the road.

The accident has caused heavy traffic on the KJE before the Sungei Tengah exit, police posted in a Facebook alert to motorists at about 6pm.

There is congestion until the Pan-Island Expressway entrance, according to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) Twitter feed.

LTA updated around 8pm that the congestion was over.
