SINGAPORE: Mobile coverage along the Circle Line (CCL) was suspended for the whole of Friday (Nov 4) amid tests to identify the cause of signal interference.

“Due to ongoing tests, commuters travelling along the Circle Line will experience temporary suspension of telco signals,” operator SMRT posted on its Twitter account.

The suspension was initially scheduled to end at 9am, but Singtel and Starhub later said on their Facebook pages that the service disruption would last until the end of Friday. M1, however, said the suspension is in place “until further notice”.

SMRT also said that commuters may encounter delays in train service due to intermittent signal interference. “For safety, CCL trains are manned this morning. We are sorry,” it said in a tweet.

Signalling issues caused disruption and multiple delays on the Circle Line on Wednesday morning. The incident was similar to disruptions in September, but the cause of the repeated signal interference has yet to be determined.

LTA and SMRT said earlier they have launched feasibility studies to strengthen the existing signalling communications network. The options being explored include placing an electromagnetic shield on the train to minimise the impact of interfering signals, and changing the signal system frequency.
