SINGAPORE: Singaporean Sunawr Ali was crowned the winner of the MediaCorp Subaru Car Challenge 2016 on Tuesday (Nov 8), walking away with the grand prize of a Subaru XV 1.6 I-S worth S$69,600 without certificate of entitlement.
In the annual endurance competition, participants keep their right palms on decals on Subaru cars as long as they can. The last contestant standing is declared the winner.
At this year’s competition, which kicked off last Saturday at Ngee Ann City’s Civic Plaza, Mr Sunawr kept his palm on the car for 75 hours and 58 minutes, outlasting 400 contestants from nine countries: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

“I will take a good shower, eat KFC, have a cup of Slurpee and sleep,” said Mr Sunawr on what he plans to do when he gets home. He added that he intends to keep the car and will be back at the challenge next year to cheer on future contestants.
Last year, 33-year-old Vietnamese national Nguyen Phuoc Huynh was the competition’s first regional winner with a time of 77 hours and 58 minutes. The winner of the 2014 edition, G Jaishanker, clocked a record 82 hours and 16 minutes.
