SINGAPORE – Whether you’ve attempted it or not, the Mannequin Challenge has hit our shores; and among the latest to latch on to the craze is City Harvest Church (CHC).
CHC senior pastor Kong Hee posted a video of thousands of church-goers attempting the challenge on Saturday (Nov 19) during one of their services.
The video clip, which has been viewed 454,000 times and shared over 3,800 times, also features Kong Hee himself frozen on stage. His wife, Sun Ho, was spotted in the congregation posing with a fellow church-goer.
The megachurch drew a congregation of 16,482 last year, according to its 2015 annual report released late last month.
However CHC is not the first church to attempt the Mannequin Challenge here. Youths at Heart of God Church did the challenge earlier this month in what they hoped would be the “largest mannequin challenge yet”.
The #MannequinChallenge was started by five 16-year-old students from Jacksonville, Florida last month. They told BBC in an interview that it was a “spur of the moment” initiative and that they didn’t expect it to become so popular.
Other local groups that have jumped on the bandwagon here include Singapore’s national bowlers and Singapore Airlines.
Then there’s this Mannequin Challenge done earlier this month during Juice magazine’s 18th anniversary party at Zouk with Singapore rapper TheLionCityBoy.
And this one posted on Facebook late last week by the Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Acres) in a bid to raise funds.
While that’s quite cool, we are blown away by these other insane videos which put both physical and mental strength to the test!
Imagine having to cling onto a pole and hold steady for 40 seconds.
What about striking a gymnastics pose without trembling?
Or keeping still in a cheerleading stunt – all while you are upside down.
Even the kids are catching on! And they are pretty amazing, might we say.
Then, there are the daredevils like this bunch of youths who have filmed themselves in gravity-defying positions like being suspended off the side of a tall building in China.
Now kids, please don’t try this at home.
