Ever had a huge craving for food that you just had to eat it all the time?
Well, a 42-year-old man in India developed a taste for knives over a span of two months because he “liked the way it tasted”, reported RT.com.
Doctors in Amritsar were stunned to find 40 knives in the stomach of Mr Jarnail Singh who had complained of stomach pains.
The police head constable, according to Barcroft Media in the RT.com report, was admitted to a hospital in Gurdaspur where five doctors carried out the surgery.
“When we began diagnosis, we found the cause of the pain puzzling. We did an ultrasound, which revealed some solid mass in his stomach, shaped like cancer,” said Dr Jitinder Malhotra in a Stuff.co.nz report.
“The patient then told us he had an uncontrollable urge to eat knives. What is astonishing is that he had been eating knives since the past two months.”
Dr Malhotra said he had not witnessed something like this in his career as a doctor, reported Telegraph.co.uk.
The surgery took five hours and Mr Singh is reported to have recovered.
Maybe he needed to have more iron in his system when he developed this urge? We suggest eating spinach (or saag in Punjabi) next time, Mr Singh.
