SINGAPORE – He is said to have tailed his victim as she walked home along Sophia Road in the wee hours of Tuesday (June 7) morning before making his move.

The 38-year-old man then allegedly slapped and punched his victim, a 21-year-old woman, before making off with her bag, said the police in a statement.

The incident, which took place at about 2.55am eventually led to the suspect’s arrest. This was after a member of the public heard the victim’s cries for help, gave chase and detained the man.

The police, who arrived shortly after, arrested the man and returned the victim’s belongings to her.

If found guilty of robbery with hurt, the suspect faces a jail term of up to 20 years and 12 or more strokes of the cane.
