SINGAPORE – Olympic champ Joseph Schooling is Singaporeans’ most searched person and athlete on Google this year, the search engine said today (Dec 14) as it revealed its hottest searches for 2016.
Schooling took home Singapore’s first-ever Olympic gold medal for the 100m butterfly swimming event at the 2016 Rio Olympics in August, beating his idol Michael Phelps – and that historic win was enough to propel the 21-year-old to become a top trending person on Google search.

Other personalities that Singaporeans were interested in include Donald Trump at no.2 top-searched and Heng Swee Keat at no.3 when the Finance Minister had a health scare earlier this year.
