Get ready for more TV in Snapchat.
James Corden, Conan O’Brien, and NBC News are all launching new shows exclusive to Snapchat, as TV companies and talent flock to the teen-friendly app.
James Corden will star in “James Corden’s Next James Corden,” which is ostensibly about a talent search led by James Corden looking for people who can have a career similar to James Corden.
O’Brien will work on a less O’Brien-focused show. He and Turner will be developing an animated comedy show, a first for Snapchat.
True to Snapchat’s history of embracing the fun and the serious, NBC News is launching a daily show, though details aren’t yet finalized, according to Variety.
Last, but certainly not least, Discover is making a series for Snapchat based on Shark Week.
These are just the most recent shows in a broader move by TV companies to embrace Snapchat.
The app was a constant presence at the recent Upfront presentations, in which TV companies woo advertisers with new shows and projects.
The temptation for TV channels is clear.
Snapchat offers a platform through which to reach a younger audience that has just about ditched traditional television.
Being on the app means gaining a whole new audience, and maybe even bringing them back to their TV shows.
For Snapchat, the deals bring in more high-quality video that can then be advertised against.
Snapchat’s broader pitch revolves around maximizing how much time its users spend on the app.
The more time spent with video from the likes of James Corden or NBC, the more time they’re looking at expensive video ads.
Whether they can find any new James Cordens will remain to be seen.
